Firmware Updates

The Radius' firmware can be updated via drag and drop using any Mac or PC.
No driver or special software is required.

You will need a USB Mini B cable to connect the Radius to your computer.

Downloading new firmware:
1. Go to www.redpandalab.com/downloads#radius
2. Download the firmware file (.zip) to your computer.
3. Double-click the downloaded zip file to expand.


Caution
* Do not rename the extracted file.
* Never turn off the pedal’s power while an update is in progress.
  Otherwise the system software or the pedal itself may be destroyed.
* Eject the pedal before disconnecting the USB cable or removing power.


Update procedure:
 1. Hold down the left footswitch and connect power.
 2. The right LED will blink blue.
 3. Continue holding the left footswitch for 2 seconds.
 4. The LED will turn solid blue.  The pedal is now in USB Mass Storage mode.
 5. Connect the pedal to the computer using a mini USB cable.
 6. Open the RADIUS drive on your computer.
 7. Drag the .bin file to the RADIUS drive.  The firmware update will
    take several seconds.  The preset LEDs will light up in sequence.
 8. After the firmware update is complete, the right LED will turn green.
 9. If an error occurred, the right LED will blink red instead.
10. Eject the RADIUS drive from your computer:
    Windows: right-click on the RADIUS icon in My Computer and select “Eject”
    Mac OS X: click eject button next to RADIUS or drag RADIUS icon to the trash.
11. Disconnect the USB cable.
12. Turn the pedal’s power off.


To check which version of firmware your pedal is running:
 1. Hold down the left footswitch and connect power.
 2. The right LED will blink blue.
 3. Continue holding the left footswitch for 2 seconds.
 4. The LED will turn solid blue.  The pedal is now in USB Mass Storage mode.
 5. Connect the pedal to the computer using a mini USB cable.
 6. Open the RADIUS drive on your computer.
 7. Open the VERSION.TXT file in a text editor.


To verify firmware download using MD5 checksum (optional):
You can verify the integrity of the firmware file from the
Terminal or command line.  This is usually not necessary. 
Mac:     md5 <file>
Windows: certutil -hashfile <file> MD5
Compare the the returned string to the string in the firmware update .md5 file.


Troubleshooting:

If the right LED blinks red, turn the Radius off, then on, and try again.
Confirm that you are copying the .bin file and no other files.
